Sound healing uses toning, chanting, or vibrations from
the voice or instruments to stimulate the body's own ability
to heal itself. Sound healing and music boost are known
to boost the immune system, regulate respiration, lower
blood pressure, alleviate pain, reduce stress, and promote
endurance. Practitioners work with the belief that each
cell in the body is a sound resonator and has its own pulse,
pattern and cycle. Recently new sound therapies have been
developed based upon the theories of acupuncture, where
sound is used to stimulate certain points on the body. Sound
or music therapy has been used by health professionals in
private practice, hospitals, schools, nurseries, birthing
centers, hospices, and psychotherapeutic settings. The type
of sound and technique varies by training and the practitioner's
professional background. Toning - Using the human voice
to make healing sounds of any nature. These sounds open
up our body to healing energy. Several vowel sounds are
thought to be particularly effective. For example: Ahh,
Eehh, Oohh, Ohmm. In "Chakra Therapy", Keith Sherwood
suggests the following sound correspondences:
- U -- in the lower part of the spine
- O -- in the belly
- A -- in the heart, chest
- E -- in the throat
- I -- in the third eye
- Hm -- in the crown
Benefits/Contraindications
No contraindications
noted. The therapeutic use of sound and music reduces anxiety
and emotional stress, lowers blood pressure and heart rate,
and promotes healing.
Training/Licensing
Some schools
have music therapy degrees, and other schools have practitioner
certificate training programs. Many other healing arts programs
include elements of sound in their curriculum. Master's
degrees are required from those practitioners trained in
music therapy or counseling education.
Sound healing
seeks to harmonize, balance, and enhance the body’s
natural ability to heal.
Ancient physicians
discovered a system of cyclic energy that flows along specific
pathways or points in the body. Each pathway is associated
with a particular physiological system and internal organ.
Disease arises when there is an imbalance in the body’s
pathways. The pathways or meridians of energy communicate
with the surface of the body at specific locations, which
are called points. These points or gateways can be accessed
through vibrations, such as is produced by sound.
The Acutonics
Healing System, using tuning forks, is one approach to sound
healing, rooted in contemporary science and Oriental Medicine,
drawing the connections between East and West and ancient
and indigenous wisdom. Other methods of sound healing may
use harmonically attuned crystal or metal bowls, the human
voice (toning, chanting or singing) or musical instruments.
In the Acutonics
system, precision calibrated tuning forks are applied to
specific acupuncture, acupressure, and trigger points to
access the body’s meridian and musculature skeletal
system. The Tuning Forks in the Acutonics System represent
a natural harmonic series that is based on the orbital properties
of the Earth, Moon, Sun, and other planets.
When we apply
the frequencies and intervals of tuning forks or other sounds
to energetic points and gateways, these cosmic tones provide
access to a deep inner balance and help us to reset negative
cellular patterns. Their rich resonance and vibration helps
to support and connect the animal’s body to natural
frequencies, bringing them back into alignment with the
cycles and rhythms of the Cosmos. The work is powerful and
profound. It has the capacity to relieve chronic and debilitating
illnesses and imbalances.
Sound Healing
has profound results in treating chronic and debilitating
conditions, as well as in helping to balance emotional and
physical wellbeing. Animals are exceptionally responsive
to this work. They love sound, often relax, yawn and even
fall asleep when they are worked on. Acutonics can be used
as a preventive form of medicine, keeping people and animals
tuned up and healthy.
A book is soon
to be published on sound healing and Acutonics for small
animals.
Education
Programs: Introduction to Equine Acutonics
Designed for people who own and handle horses, this three-day
class provides an in-depth examination of some common equine
problems and conditions and explores specific treatment
protocols using the Acutonics Tuning Fork System. Participants
learn about equine points and meridians, and explore specific,
non-invasive treatment protocols for working with their
own horses. In our first class we learn simple balancing
techniques for sore backs and stiffness, and techniques
to calm our animals, improve performance, and boost their
immune system.
